Overview of Hack-a-Thon

The Career Fair 2022 Think Tank Hack-a-Thon Competition is designed to foster student ingenuity, innovation, creativity, and analytical thinking applied to business problem solving. The skill sets students gain and the visibility the Think Tank Hack-a-Thon Competition engenders will benefit both the potential Employers and the Student Participants, both short- and long-term. The Think Tank Hack-a-Thon Competition has several cases in a variety of disciplines for student analysis.

Instructions for Participants

Steps to Completing Successful Hack-a-Thon Solutions & Core Elements that Must Be Present in Your Responses

Step 1: Identify and state the problem and the rationale. The rationale is simply a statement as to why this is the particular problem to be solved in this challenge.

Step 2: Identify and state the hypothesis for the solution to be proposed. This hypothesis essentially answers the question of why the solution is fitting given the stated problem.

Step 3: Identify and state the key players who are impacted by the problem and the solution, and those who have or will facilitate the problem and the solution.

Step 4: Identify the barriers or facilitators for the solution you propose. These could be situationally determined or characteristics of the extant environment in which the organization or problem is embedded.

Step 5. Identify the solution and the timeframe for its implementation.

Step 6. Identify the risks, benefits, and consequences for the proposed solution.

Step 7. Identify and state the competitors’ benchmarks or best practices that support the final solution you presented.

Step 8. Optional: Use numerical data in graph and chart format for ease of audience and judges’ understanding.

In what ways can Compass Group leverage Artificial Intelligence to maximize efficiency and effectiveness in food service delivery to our customers? In what ways will these strategies benefit diverse people in our environment, such as people with disabilities, older people, etc.?

Marketing/Communications – Discuss ways in which we can leverage marketing and communications to attract customers back to the work site to enjoy our food offerings in person, in light of the growing push for hybrid and remote work assignments among employees. In addition, please discuss how we can best promote our company and our brand as the largest food services company that people still do not know by name, using such free resources as social media and email?

One essential component of the Customer Service experience we create at Compass Group pertains to Marketing and Communications. How do we successfully devise Marketing and Communications campaign strategies that will attract customers, the heart of our business, back into our cafes and marketplaces? What are some unique ways that we can promote our business, in light of our #1 position globally amidst the fact that many people still do not recognize our brand? A part of your response should incorporate the use of social media as a marketing and communications tool.
